When to start with BaZi
Choose BaZi to examine how season and surrounding Elements support or drain the Day Master, which functions Elements perform and how a ten-year Pillar meets the natal structure. It suits questions about resource use, learning, work and changing context.
Begin with the Day Master, then Five-Element balance and Da Yun. Counting Elements or naming one Ten God is not a conclusion.
When to start with Zi Wei
Choose Zi Wei when a question belongs naturally to a life area such as career, resources, partnership, outer environment or wellbeing, and its relationship with other areas matters. The chart offers a detailed spatial framework.
Begin with the Twelve Palaces and Ming and Shen, then add Major Stars and Four Transformations. No single Palace predicts an event.
Can both systems be used together?
Yes, but finish an independent reading in each first. Do not translate Career Palace directly into one Ten God or equate Da Yun with Da Xian. Formulas, symbols and timing boundaries differ.
Then compare themes: resource, responsibility, partnership, visibility or restoration. Repetition makes a question worth checking; it does not prove an inevitable event. Difference may show that the systems describe separate aspects.

Input requirements
Both need birth date, time and place, but sensitivity differs. In BaZi, an unknown hour makes the fourth Pillar conditional. In Zi Wei, the hour places Life and Body Palaces and several stars, so accurate birth time is especially important.
Use the same source record, place and historical time zone. With a boundary time, compare plausible versions inside each system rather than choosing the most flattering description.
