The Palace names
The standard sequence covers Life, Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Career, Property, Wellbeing and Parents. The Body Palace adds a second focal point. Names are useful labels, but no Palace should be read as a sealed compartment.
A practical reading order
- Locate the Life and Body Palaces. They establish the chart’s principal viewpoint and where effort is most visibly expressed.
- Read the main Palace. Note major stars, supporting stars, brightness and the Earthly Branch.
- Check the opposite Palace. It often describes the external condition, counterpart or balancing demand.
- Add the connected triad. The four-Palace structure gives context that the main Palace alone cannot supply.
- Follow the Four Transformations. Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji show opportunity, influence, recognition and constraint moving through the chart.
- Overlay timing. A 10-year Life Period and annual Palace pattern show which natal themes are emphasised now.
Short meanings of the Twelve Palaces
Life concerns orientation and personal expression. Siblings describes peers and early horizontal relationships. Spouse concerns partnership patterns. Children can include creativity, projects and care. Wealth relates to resources and money habits. Health is read cautiously as vitality and pressure, not diagnosis.
Travel shows movement and the outside world. Friends concerns networks and collaborators. Career describes contribution and public role. Property covers home, assets and foundations. Wellbeing concerns inner satisfaction and restoration. Parents includes authority, support and inherited expectations.
Stars do not have one fixed meaning
A star changes expression through Palace context, brightness, companions, transformations and period. An apparently difficult star may provide discipline or realism; an auspicious star can become scattered if unsupported. Reading labels without relationships creates false certainty.
